Both of the directors have taken many courses in care and awareness and Trevor has completed a course for registered owners and managers recommended by the Inspection Unit. Shirley and Trevor have achieved the NVQ Level 4 Care Award and the NVQ Level 4 Registered Managers’ Award. Sandra Gamble is the manager of Glenside Care Home and is the Registered Manager on our registration. Sandra was a Residential Social Worker at Kings Heath Care Home until its closure in July 2002. She has many years’ experience in working with the elderly and also those with dementia and already holds an NVQ Level 3. Sandra has also taken many courses in Care and Person Centred Approach Care and has achieved the NVQ 4 Management Award and the NVQ 4 Care Award.
Our shift leader care staff, Jane Radley, Celia Bowman, Karen Nutt and Samantha Faulkner, have been with the Home for some time. Jane, Celia, Karen and Sam have all completed NVQ Level 3 in Care. All shift leaders have undertaken many other training sessions to assist our residents’ needs. Our care staff are also trained in basic first aid. Our care staff have undertaken care and awareness courses along with lifting and handling and food hygiene. A significant number have attained NVQ Level 2 in Care or higher. The Home believes that training is necessary to ensure we can meet our residents’ changing needs. Each member of staff has a formal supervision six times a year and, whilst all new staff go through an induction and training process, a regular training review is held for all staff. Staff will be confirmed in their post only after completion of a satisfactory police check and satisfactory check of the Protection of Vulnerable Adults and UKCC registers.
